Meeting Info: Big Brothers (26 Feb)
February 23, 2010 at 12:08 pm | Posted in Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: friends, peer pressure, Proverbs, role models
Theme: Our Peers
Aim: To encourage the young people to think about who their friends and role models are and why.
The people who we are closest to often have a large impact on the individual we are and will become. Therefore, it is important for us to have friendships that build us up rather than break us down, and it is good for us to have role models that positively influence us. In society today, the media presents young people with lots of celebrity role models, who can often have a negative influence on the way a young person may see themselves. This Rock Solid session aims to help young people to discover what the Bible says is worth valuing in a friend and role model.
Key Bible Verse: Proverbs 18:24
Meeting Info: Drink, Drank, Drunk (11 Dec)
December 4, 2009 at 6:30 pm | Posted in Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: Acts, alcohol, drink, fitting in, peer pressure
Theme: Alcohol
Aim: To teach the young people that we shouldn’t let anyone pressure us to drink and that Jesus satisfies us in ways that alcohol can’t.
As young people grow up and enter their teenage years, the need to fit in with others can often have negative effects, even on the most secure of people. It can be really hard to stand up against the crowd and say no to drinking. This Rock Solid session challenges your young people to think about the alternatives to drinking that Jesus has given us, why this is better for us, and how to avoid peer pressure.
Key Bible Verses: Acts 2:1-21
Meeting Info: Go On, Do It! (20 Nov)
November 13, 2009 at 6:30 pm | Posted in Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: fitting in, Matthew, peer pressure, temptation
Theme: Peer Pressure
Aim: To show that we all get tempted to follow the wrong crowd at some point, but we don’t have to give in to peer pressure.
One of the greatest pressures on young people is the pressure to fit in. This can sometimes lead them into doing things which they know are wrong, just to fit in with a group. In this session we explore the concept of peer pressure and try to discuss ways for the young people to react when faced with it.
Key Bible Verses: Matthew 4:1-11

Theme: School
Aim: To think about how school can be not just endured, but enjoyed.
School is an amazing privilege – an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and thinking that will equip young people to enjoy a productive, purposeful and fulfilling life. School, for many, is also a trial – a time of frustration, persecution, alienation and loneliness. This meeting aims to bring hope to those for whom school life is difficult and challenge to those for whom school is enjoyable.
For both groups the invitation is the same: God calls us to a life of dynamic partnership. How will we respond? The aim of this meeting is to give hope to all who attend school. God is willing to accompany us and work through us to do amazing things in school.
Key Bible Verses: Joshua 1:7-9, Romans 8:35-39
