Meeting Info: Stronger Together (5 Feb)
January 29, 2010 at 6:30 pm | In Meeting Info | Leave a CommentTags: achievement, friends, Mark, Romans, teamwork
Theme: Teamwork
Aim: To teach how to work well as a team.
We’re not meant to go it alone. By bringing our strengths together God can do greater things than working solo. Teams only work when they work together and this subtle element is the key this session. The young people will have had some experience of teams and good team work to varying degrees from school projects to sports activities and they will come with personal opinions on this subject. We aim to include and discuss these, whilst aiming for them to have a positive experience of teamwork during the evening.
Key Bible Verses: Mark 6:7, Romans 12:3-8
Meeting Info: The Box (29 Jan)
January 22, 2010 at 7:30 pm | In Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: influences, John, morals, television
Theme: The Influence of Television
Aim: To teach that what we see influences us, and encourage the young people to think about what they watch on TV and why they watch it
The average young person watches hours of television every day. During this time, they will be absorbing messages which largely are morally neutral at best, and positively damaging at worst. (Although, obviously, there are exceptions.) The purpose of this meeting is not to teach that television is, in itself, evil. Rather, it seeks to encourage your young people to think about what they watch, how it influences them, and whether these are influences they really want.
Key Bible Verses: John 10:10
Meeting Info: A Bit of Respect Please (22 Jan)
January 15, 2010 at 7:30 pm | In Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: Colossians, friends, Luke, Psalms, relationships, respect, society
Theme: Respect
Aim: To communicate the importance of respecting each other
Respect is crucial in forming healthy relationships and a helpful attitude towards life in general. Crime, abusive relationships and antisocial behaviour all spring from a lack of respect for other people. It is extremely important that young people learn the value of respect at the stage when their social skills are developing. This meeting seeks to teach that respecting other people is central to building good relationships and a healthy society.
Key Bible Verses: Luke 6:31, Colossians 3:14, Psalm 111:10
Meeting Info: Bombastic Balloons (15 Jan)
January 15, 2010 at 5:44 pm | In Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: Acts, balloons, fun, games
Theme: Balloons
Aim: To have fun with balloons
This is a whole session of balloon related games. There are so many fun things you can do with balloons. The idea of the session is just for the group to have fun but to also to come away with a positive message that they will remember every time they see a balloon.
Key Bible Verses: Acts 13:52

Meeting Info: Drink, Drank, Drunk (11 Dec)
December 4, 2009 at 6:30 pm | In Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: Acts, alcohol, drink, fitting in, peer pressure
Theme: Alcohol
Aim: To teach the young people that we shouldn’t let anyone pressure us to drink and that Jesus satisfies us in ways that alcohol can’t.
As young people grow up and enter their teenage years, the need to fit in with others can often have negative effects, even on the most secure of people. It can be really hard to stand up against the crowd and say no to drinking. This Rock Solid session challenges your young people to think about the alternatives to drinking that Jesus has given us, why this is better for us, and how to avoid peer pressure.
Key Bible Verses: Acts 2:1-21
Meeting Info: It Makes The World Go Round (4 Dec)
November 27, 2009 at 6:30 pm | In Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: generosity, Matthew, money, needs, selfishness
Theme: Money
Aim: To show that the love of money is bad and generosity is good.
All the time we get told that money is the centre of everything. In films, music and magazines we are told that if you don’t have money, you are nothing. In this session we will look at how money impacts the world and our lives and how we need to be generous when others are in need.
Key Bible Verse: Matthew 19:24
Meeting Info: All I Want (27 Nov)
November 20, 2009 at 6:30 pm | In Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: Christmas, Christmas Tree Festival, expectations, giving, Luke, receiving
Theme: Christmas Expectations
Aim: To show that the most fulfilling part of Christmas isn’t always what you receive; it’s what you can give.
Christmas is a wonderful time. The whole season comes with so much promise. It’s great to get presents and eat nice food but even so, does it ever completely live up to our expectations? Did we get all the presents we wanted? Did we see all the people we wanted to see? Is Christmas pudding as tasty as we remember? In this session we look at how, through other people and the original story, we can change our expectations of Christmas.
We’ll also be preparing decorations during the evening for the annual Christmas Tree Festival at St. Paul’s.
Key Bible Verses: Luke 2
Meeting Info: Go On, Do It! (20 Nov)
November 13, 2009 at 6:30 pm | In Meeting Info | Comments OffTags: fitting in, Matthew, peer pressure, temptation
Theme: Peer Pressure
Aim: To show that we all get tempted to follow the wrong crowd at some point, but we don’t have to give in to peer pressure.
One of the greatest pressures on young people is the pressure to fit in. This can sometimes lead them into doing things which they know are wrong, just to fit in with a group. In this session we explore the concept of peer pressure and try to discuss ways for the young people to react when faced with it.
Key Bible Verses: Matthew 4:1-11
